How to Use a Tire Repair Machine

A tire repair machine is a tool that can help tire techs perform tasks with ease. These machines can change tires quickly, with little or no risk of damaging the wheel or tire. The machine has special clamps that hold the rim while a tool head rotates and demounts the tire from the rim, allowing for quick mounting and removal. These machines can be used on passenger cars, light trucks, and motorcycles. They can be found in auto parts stores, tire shops, and repair centers. They operate differently than a traditional swing arm changer and can be more expensive, but they are quicker, more efficient, and safer than their predecessors.

To use a tire repair machine, the operator must first prepare the tire for mounting by removing the valve stem cap and using a valve stem tool to remove the valve core. The tire must be inflated to its maximum rated pressure, and the wheel must be inspected for damage, mismatched size, or other problems. Before mounting, the technician should lubricate the tire bead with an approved tire bead lubricant.

After a wheel is mounted and secured on the tire repair machine, the bead breakers are activated by depressing the inflation pedal. The bead breaker arm should be placed on the side of the tire away from the rim lip to avoid contact. Then, the bead breaker blade is pushed into the tire, breaking the bead of the tire. The tire is then rolled in between the bead breakers and the padded wheel seat. The operator must keep their hands, arms, and body away from the wheel during the remaining Bead Seat and Inflation procedures. Personal injury can result if proper precautions are not taken.

The next step is to place the rim in the center of the padded tire seat. The rim is held securely by the rim clamps, which are then activated by the inflation pedal. The jaws on the rim clamps are usually covered by plastic protectors to prevent damage to specialty aluminum wheels and to help with avoiding accidental scratches on the rim while being mounted or demounted. The bead breaker arm is then moved into position to break the other area of the tire bead.

When the bead breaker is in position, the operator depresses the air flow to the tire valve and holds the pedal down for about 1 second to allow line pressure to flow into the tire to inflate it. Once the bead is seated, the tire can be inflated to its recommended psi with the inflation hose.

A tire repair machine is a great piece of equipment for any shop that services a lot of vehicles. If you are interested in getting one, be sure to research all of the available options to find a model that meets your needs and fits within your budget. Some models may look very similar but work differently than others, so it’s important to learn the differences. You can also ask the distributor that sells your machine for a demonstration and training session.
